Principal's Message-69

Welcome to Kankakee Valley Middle School!

I am Josh Pearman and I am blessed to serve some of the best students in the state of Indiana, right here in Kankakee Valley! As a husband, a father of three, and an educator in our community, I believe in our schools. My journey working with students began right here in the Kankakee Valley School Corporation nearly two decades ago and I am humbled to serve in this capacity as Principal.

As one who has worked with students for nearly 20 years, I am keenly aware that middle school students (adolescents) are living through some of the most transformational days and years of their young lives. There is no doubt that these years can be tough for students and parents alike. It is our goal at KVMS to help foster their academic, social, emotional, and physical health as they traverse these formative years. Our staff is committed to helping your student achieve success and to prepare them for their high school years that lie ahead. It is our desire to 'flip the script' on the middle school years. We believe that middle school does not have to be the 3 worst years of a student's life...but instead, it can truly be three years of growth and positive transformation.

As a dad of three kids, I always encourage my fellow parents to stay actively involved in the lives of their students. Ask them insightful questions such as:  "What was the best part of your day today?" or "What could you do differently tomorrow, if today did not go as planned?" and "What was the most interesting thing you learned today?". I encourage our parents to check in on their students academic progress and monitor the timely submission of assignments so they don't fall behind. Schoology is a great tool with many resources for our parents to discover and view how students are engaging with classroom content at school. While we encourage our parents to help monitor and foster their student's learning -- the middle school years are a time when students learn the importance of self-advocacy. It will be a great tool that will serve them well in their lives!

Middle School is a great opportunity for students to branch out and begin to really explore the opportunities that they will have before them in both extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. KVMS offers a wide variety of academic teams, music and drama programs, clubs, athletics and more for our students to participate in. Part of being able to participate in many of these programs is the ability to put our education first. We must hold our academics in high regard as our students participate in the many programs offered by the school. For students who need assistance academically, there are opportunities throughout the school for support including peer-tutoring, mentoring, Response to Intervention, and more. We want our students to have a well-rounded middle school experience!

I am looking forward to a fantastic school year with our students, staff, and KVMS community. We look forward to seeing you at our parent nights, music concerts, sporting events, and plethora of other KVMS events. I hope that the 2024-2025 school year is our Best Year Yet!

Thank you for all you do to help our students and our school community.

Sincerely,

Josh
